After the success of the first Muzic Matters Night in Hyderabad at Bottles & Chimney last month, we bring you a force that will shake the very foundations of Bottles & Chimney. Tuhin Mehta aka Brute Force along with Anish Sood and Phalgun will be dishing out the best in EDM.
Tuhin Mehta
In a country bursting at the seams with melodic sing-along popular film music, you would think it’s suicidal for a DJ to play a sound that, instead of making you flit carelessly around trees, makes you want to ricochet off the walls of a nightclub, fling your arms towards the strobe lights and lose your sanity. Until the music stops.
Meet Tuhin Mehta, a DJ for whom ‘radically different’ is the norm.
With a career spanning 16 years, and a sound that’s developed from the first time he connected his CD players and a 2-channel mixer to his home system, Tuhin’s DJ sets have scythed a niche for himself in India.
His tunes varies from deep minimal tech to electro, to rumbling progressive basslines, to tribal, techno and trance; creating a musical palette that’s diverse and fluid. Sold out clubs and delirious fans have labeled his unique style of playing "EnergiTech", a sound that hits you square in the torso, with seamless transitions loaded with hard hitting drums and quirky electronic melodies.
As a producer, he is one half of the duo Brute Force, a collaboration that began many years ago with childhood friend Shane Mendonsa. Together, they’ve launched Brutal By Birth, the subcontinent’s first independent house Label, promoting their unique brand of hard hitting, acid laden, bass heavy dance floor stompers.
2006 saw the release of "Kill The Bass" the first single from Brute Force. The track received critical acclaim in the club circuit and has found a permanent slot in the track lineup of India’s leading Progressive House DJs. Their recent releases have been on the best selling charts worldwide for weeks together.
Tuhin’s exceptional skills as a DJ and producer (He is a professionally qualified student of Audio Engineering from the world-renowned School of Audio Engineering (SAE)’s Chennai campus and an international ambassador to the Berklee College of music.) caught the attention of Pioneer, the world’s leading manufacturers of professional DJ equipment. In 2008, he was named as a Pioneer Pro DJ for India. He joins the ranks of many renowned international DJ’s who are associated with Pioneer.
Tuhin holds numerous residencies around India and is part of the core team of Submerge, India’s leading resource for dance music on the web and regular club night. In 2007 he was one of the few DJs from India invited to play at Asia’s premier dance festival Sunburn, at Candolim Beach, Goa. The festival line-up included some of the biggest global names in the dance industry.
With several new releases in the pipeline for Brute Force and a busy DJ diary, it looks like 2008 is going to be Tuhin’s best year yet. Crisscrossing the country and collecting tons of frequent flier miles, it’s only a matter of time before Tuhin Mehta’s music catches up with you. Just make sure you’ve got comfortable dancing shoes on.
